We sat obediently in our first-class seats despite the door of the plane being open and
the massed hoards of economy waiting for us to shift our regal bottoms off the
plane. Well – the seatbelt signs were still on, and there’s no way you can
disobey those.....
Hong Kong airport was massive and busy, and $20 for a
shower, so we decided to stay dirty. We passed through what felt like endless
hours of immigration (but was probably only 15 mins) and caught up with the
family, thanks to the wonders of technology (Skype on the laptop, sitting on
the floor).
We then got on the very full Air New Zealand plane to
Auckland – economy class.... what a come down. The guy next to me (not Tom!) broke
the world record for alcohol consumption in the air, and was refused drink a mere 90 minutes into the fight by an Amazonian flight attendant.
Despite his best efforts at trying to wheedle a dram out of any passing Air NZ
employee, he had to be dry for the rest of the interminably long flight.
We were met in Auckland airport (massive and really not at
all busy – more sheep than people, you know) by my great mates Sarah and
Rachael, who I haven’t seen in the longest time.
And so the adventure begins.....
